The Mindrolling depicts a place of perfect emancipation in Tibetan. The place is located about 25km from the clock tower of Dehradun. Mindrolling monastery is one of the six major monasteries of Nyingma school of Tibet. The Nyingma tradition is the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Other three are Kagyu, Sakya, and Gelug.

The place is beautifully maintained by monks which lighten the glory of Tibetan Buddhism. Spirituality is present in the atmosphere. It’s really a beautiful experience to feel Tibetan culture in the lap of Himalayas. Now let’s travel in time to know how India blessed by this beautiful Monastery. Mindrolling originally constructed in Tibet but was heavily damaged in 1718 by the Dzungar Mongols, but the damage didn’t crush the believe of Tibetan people and was rebuilt during the reign of the seventh Dalai Lama Kalzang Gyatso. Son and daughter of famous Nyingma master Terdak Lingpa supervised its reconstruction. For about 300 years the university trained Nyingma scholars and yogis. Its throne holder was one of the most respected person in Tibet.
When Chinese Communists started dominating over the Tibetan culture, to protect the Tibetan belief in 1959 monks at Mindrolling revolted against Communist rule, at that time monastery again suffered damage. During the Tibet uprising of 1959, monks along with 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso exiled in India. Thus in 1965, Khochhen Rinpoche and a small group of monks began to develop Mindrolling monastery at Clement Town in Dehradun. At present Ngagyur Nyingma college runs here which is one of the largest Buddhist institutes in India.

The Great Statue

The great statue of the glorious supreme Guru Dregpa Kundul also present and the attractive color combination used on it resembles the typical Tibetan artistry. As we exit from the monastery the statue of white Tara built in loving memory of Late Jetsun Tsewang Lhamo is present to give us the enormous strength to always move forward in our journey to enlightenment.

Place near the beautiful monastery is dominated by nice Tibetan people. They have helped and cooperative nature. Inside the campus, two big prayer wheels are present and dedicated for the long life and successful dharma activities of Master Tiching Sufu and for Linda Kuan.
A big statue of the Lord Buddha of about 107 feet tall is present, this statue of the Lord Buddha has been most graciously consecrated by the 14th Dalai Lama on the auspicious occasion of Buddha’s descent from heaven, the 2124th Tibetan royal year.

A lot of attractive shops and food centers are available outside the monastery premises. The monastery is located at the end of the city behind that forest area starts. River Ganga flourishes the vegetation, by flowing between Clement town and Lachhiwala range. The place brings Tibetan and Himalayan culture together near the holy Ganga river which flows towards Rishikesh.

The Tibetan architecture and artifacts are really attractive. The figures on the walls and designs resemble the glorious tradition of Tibet. The place really develops spirituality and the beautiful surrounding trap you in its lap and makes us feel relaxed. We hired an auto from the clock tower of Dehradun and it took about 45 minutes to reach Clement town. The place is situated at the other corner of the city. Behind the monastery forest area starts, Raja Ji Tiger Reserve is near to the clement town. The reflection of Tibetan culture can be seen easily in the surrounding areas of Monastery. We enjoyed our complete day to understand the philosophy and secrets behind the mindrolling monastery. Enjoyed to spend time with the monks and the local people who are a lot cooperative and yes one more thing which should not be forgotten, that is delicious food!.
