So, we packed our bags and headed towards the himalayas, at small cantonment town, Kasauli to explore the places to visit in Kasauli. The town has its unique concept of governance. Which governed with the mutual concent of Indian Army and Civil Society. You will be surprised to know that unlike other Indian towns and cities, Kasauli does not have a municipality. The municipal authority has been given to the Indian Army and Army take care of it.

How To Reach Kasauli?

The first question raised in anybody’s mind while planning a trip is how to reach the destination? Isn”t

The same question was in front of us… but our motive was to make the trip unplanned. So, we reached the Kashmere Gate ISBT enquired about the availablity of buses and how to reach. Then we board the bus at night and reached the Dharampur at 3 am. It will take 5 hours to bus to reach the Dharampur…. the nearest town to Kasauli.

NOTE: There is no direct bus service from Delhi to Kasauli.

From Dharampur, the Kasauli is about 8Km. Normal bus and taxi services are available during day time. But at night only Taxi services are available and during the night they charge you an ultra extra amount for just 8Km, Strange!!
So, it is better, if you can reach Dharampur before 8pm and enjoy bus, taxi services for Kasauli at minimal rates.

Stay At Kasauli

There are planty of hotels available at main Kasauli and Gadkal (a very close town to Kasauli). The hotel’s availablity starts from INR 1500. We had taken the hotel at Gadkal. From the main market road of Gadkal direct buses are available for Kasauli. But we decided to explore the places to visit in Kasauli by walking and tested our photography skills.

While going uphills we had seen some big hordings of Indian Armed Forces. And is obvious because Kasauli was established as a cantonment. Kasauli owes its mystical ambience to the lavish Victorian buildings built by the British.

Christ Church

The Christ church remains the only Anglicanism church in India till 1970 and a great example of Gothic Architecture. It is one of the places to visit in Kasauli. The Church was created by the British family, who was the founder of the serene town of Kasauli in 1842. A great place for religious peace and photography. Great view of the Kasauli can be seen from the Church complex and it resembles the scene like the medeival era town of England.

NOTE: Avoid photography on Sundays without permission.

The Christ Church is about few meters away from the Kasauli Bus stand. We walked towards the Christ Church. Enjoyed the religious peace and taken some good photographs.

Heritage Market

The Heritage Market lies on the mall road and nearby the Christ Church. One can enjoy the beauty and shopping at the Heritage Market. There are some of the beautiful handmade wooden artifacts which one can purchase from there. A great place to enjoy walking and shopping, which will take you to the next level of enthusiasm during evening time.

We enjoyed walking at the Heritage market. Small beautifully decorated shops with handmade items are irresistable and definately made you stop at them.

Old Heritage City

Where Heritage market ends the old Heritage city starts. One can visit at Old heritage city if interested to see the old wodden houses….. We visited the old heritage city, which is quite congested like any other old India town. But the Himalayan beauty and local architecture of the houses are mindblowing.

We spend some pleasing time in the himalayan old heritage city and thats why we included it in the places to visit in Kasauli. After that we move back to the Heritage Market to enjoy the hidden but very delicious street food……We will talk about it later on!!

Baptists Church

While heading back towards the Heritage Market, we opt different path. And here we blessed with Baptists Church. A small attractive Red-colored Baptists Church is a great symbol of English footprint which glows the environment with love and religious harmony.

There is a lot of confusion among visitors and even on the internet between Christ Church and Baptists Church. Due to this confusion, most of the visitors unknowingly escape the Baptist Church thinking Christ and Baptists churches are the same, so it is highly recomended to spend some time to reach the Baptists Church and thats why we included the church into the places to visit in Kasauli.

When we reached the church we found it was closed. While inquiring with local we come to know that the current Baptists Church was constructed by British in 1923, but the thing that sadden was… In 2008 the church catches fire, due to which the wooden interior burnt. Currently, the restoration work is going on.

Exploration near Baptists Church

While exploring the nearby places we found some of the old wooden government buildings which speaks the stories of the cultural and traditional murgence of Indians and English. Indeed you may get some of the good photo clicks at this location because even during peak season this place is less crowded…less crowded! Why? You know usually tourist get confuesd between both the churches so they forget or missed to visit Baptists Church and its near by places. You may spend some time here by enjoying nature.

Then we headed towards the Heritage Market to taste the hidden but very special and delicious street food…!!! In Heritage Market a small sweet shop is present named Narender Sweet house, here you may try BUN-SAMOSA.

Gilbert Natural Trail

While comming out of the Heritage Market we reached Major DhayanChand Chowk, a statue of Major DhayanChand is present there. From the Chowk we followed the signboards and headed towards the Gilbert Natural Trail. While walking towards Gilbert Natural Trail, you can see some of the magnificient British era buildings, like Kasauli Club and popular sites like Sunset points, Sunrise points.

If you want to enjoy the natural flora-funa and cloudy landescape then definately have a walk for Gilbert natural Trail which is about 2Km and will for sure rejuvenate you. Don’t forget to carry camera at this tail, because you may click some of the best scenery here. From this trial you can see the famous Monkey Point.

Monkey Point from the Gilbert Natural Trail

There is an interesting story behind the Monkey Point. Watching that site from distance one can easily assume the top like a footstep. According to legends and local folks- When Lord Hanuman going back to Lanka with a mountain contains Sanjeevani Booti. He put his legs down here and due to his weight the top of the hill gets a shape of his footstep.
As we got tired of walking and the prediction of rain makes to to head back from Gilbert Trail.

Sunset Point

While heading back we decided to have some rest and enjoy the sunset at Sunset point. There is 2 sunset point present in between Major Dhayanchand Chowk and Gilbert trail. During sunset time these points get little bit crowdy but will give you a some of the best shots for photography enthusiast.

A wonderful evening the in the valley will be incomplete without drinks…..what say?
For Whiskey and Rum lovers, Kasauli Brewery is a must-visit place. It is a few minutes distant from Kasauli Bus stand. But why we included Kasauli Brewery in out must visit places to Kasauli !? Strange!!..Okay, let’s move back in the past in the pages of history. But before that let it be clear that TRAVELTRAP do not promote any kind of INTOXICATION

The Kasauli distillery and brewery were setup in the late 1820s by Edward Abraham Dyer. He brought brewing and distilling equipment from England and Scotland. Edward Dyer selected the location of his brewery/distillery due to the fine springwater available there and because the climate at this altitude was similar to the climate of Scotland. His stated ambition was “to produce a malt whisky as fine as Scotch whisky,”

Today, some of the most famous Rums and Wiskeys in India are prepared by them. Also, don’t be surprise to know that this is the first Brewery in India and even in Asia.
