Yes!! You heard right commuters carrying oversized baggage may be barred from Travelling in Delhi Metro from 20 selected stations. According to operations and maintenance Act of DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation), commuters are restricted to carry luggage more than 15 kg. You are not allowed to carry baggage that is more than 15kg and the maximum dimensions of the bag is restricted to 60cm length, 45cm width, and 25cm height (60x45x25).
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has installed U-shaped metal barriers in front of x-ray baggage screening machines. Which don’t allow oversized baggage to enter the machine at 5 metro stations- Barakhamba Road, Anand Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Shahdara.
These five stations are highly crowded and usually people with heavy luggage board trains from these stations. The Metro authority is planning to install the U-shaped metal barriers to remaining selected 15 stations. These 15 stations are- New Delhi Metro Station, Rithala, R.K. Ashram Marg, Chawri Bazar, Dilshad Garden, Inderlok, HUDA city center, Govindpuri, Adarsh Nagar. Some of these stations have a large number of footprints of Railway passengers. Limiting the baggage size may resolve many security-related problems faced by CISF. Thus, commuters with oversize luggage enter in these stations won’t be allowed to travel.
