A tradition with spirituality, which originates under Bodhi tree, flourish in Tibet and preserve here at the clement town in Dehradun. The Mindrolling Monastery is one of the 6 major monasteries of Nyingma school. Palden Nyorig is another name of the great Mindrolling lineage. Popular Tibetan legend says that this lineage descended from the celestial devas. It is thus one of the Lha-rig (deva family) lineages of Tibet. Chogyal Terdag Lingpa was one of the masters in this lineage, who established the Og Min Ogyen Mindrolling monastery in 1646
Mindrolling monastery and Nyingma School
A place where Himalayan people meet the Tibetan culture at 185 feet tall and 100 Sq. feet in width mind-rolling monastery located near clement town Dehradun. The Mind-rolling depicts a place of perfect emancipation in Tibetan.It is present at a distance of about 25 km from Clock Tower. The mind-rolling monastery is one of the six major monasteries of the Nyingma school of Tibet. The Nyingma tradition is the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Another three are Kagyu, Sakya, and Gelug.

Mind-rolling originally constructed in Tibet but was heavily damaged in 1718 by the Dzungar Mongols, but the damage didn’t crush the belief of Tibetan people and was rebuilt during the reign of the seventh Dalai Lama Kalzang Gyatso. Son and daughter of famous Nyingma master Terdak Lingpa supervised its reconstruction. For about 300 years the university trained Nyingma scholars and yogis. Its throne holder was one of the most reverends in Tibet.
When Chinese Communists started dominating over the Tibetan culture. To protect the Tibetan belief in 1959 monks at Mind-rolling revolted against Communist rule, at that time monastery again suffered damage. During the Tibet uprising of 1959, monks along with 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso exiled in India. Thus in 1965, Khochhen Rinpoche and a small group of monks began to develop Mindrolling monastery at Clement Town in Dehradun. At present Ngagyur Nyingma college runs here which is one of the largest Buddhist institutes in India.
Beauty of Campus
The great statue of the glorious supreme Guru Padmasambhava in the form known as Dregpa Kundul also present. The attractive color combination used on it resembles the typical Tibetan artistry. As we exit from the monastery the statue of white Tara built in loving memory of Late Jetsun Tsewang Lhamo is present. This is to give us an enormous strength to always move forward in our journey to enlightenment. At evening time lighting around the Monastery gives the feeling of heaven.
Inside the campus, two big prayer wheels are present and dedicated to the long life and successful dharma activities of Ven Master Tiching Sufu and for Linda Kuan.
A big statue of the Lord Buddha of about 107 feet tall is present, this statue of the Lord Buddha has been most graciously consecrated by the 14th Dalai Lama on the auspicious occasion of Buddha’s descent from heaven, the 2124th Tibetan royal year.
The place is dominate by nice Tibetan people. They have helping and cooperative attitude. A lot of attractive shops and food centers are available outside the monastery premises. Where handicrafts related to Buddhism are available, besides that there is no problem for food as many shops and restaurants are available which provide good quality of food at affordable price.
The location of monastery is at the end of the city, behind that the forest area starts. River Ganga flourishes the vegetation, by flowing between Clement town and Lachhiwala range. The place brings Tibetan and Himalayan culture together near the holy the Ganga river which flows towards Rishikesh.
The Tibetan architecture and artifacts are really attractive. The figures on the walls and designs resemble the glorious tradition of Tibet. The place really develops spirituality and the beautiful surrounding trap you in its lap and makes us feel relax. The place really provides a good opportunity to get more close to the Buddhism and Tibetan tradition.
